Who did the sword Ron Wyatt found in the cave belong to?

The depiction of the sword in the movie is not necessarily accurate to the one found. It is however believed that this sword once belonged to Goliath (1Sa 17:51). David took Goliath’s sword to behead him and the sword was then brought to the Sanctuary as a memorial of God’s deliverance from the enemy (1Sa 21:8-9). It was placed with the priestly ephod:

“And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod” (1Sa 21:9)

This sword is somewhat described in the Bible, one for being fit for a giant over 9 feet tall and the other as “none like that”. It was an expensive sword and most likely one that had unique details. Because of the large size of the sword Ron Wyatt found in the cave, and it’s uniqueness and because we know that Goliath’s sword had previously been stored with the sanctuary items (as recorded in the Bible) Ron’s conclusion and belief were that this sword was most likely the sword of Goliath. There is not another Biblical clue for any other sword being stored together with the sanctuary and the ephod.

Picture of Robert Wadlow who was registered to be 8 feet 11, close to Goliath’s 9 feet. Today people this tall suffer great health problems, the case might have been different in Biblical times when mankind was less degenerate gene-wise.

The Bible speaks of giants in several places. About the time before the flood: “There were giants in the earth in those days” (Gen_6:4)
Not only were there humans considered to be giants compared to our day, but animals were giants too. The extinction of these great mammals, insects and sea creatures might witness a change in the earth’s ecosystem making it more difficult for large animals to survive. It is speculated that these animals needed a higher oxygen level to sustain their health, and increased atmospheric pressure. From the book of Genesis we learn of the great flood which also could have caused life on earth to change. This changes might have effected the growth of

humans as well and a permanent change in their genetics.

Many fossils of giant animals shows the same species as those existing today only in a smaller size, not all animals went extinct. So both humans and animals alike have shrunk.
After the flood there remained some human lineages that continued to be much taller than others due to their genetics. They were called giants. The last mention of a “giant-sized” man is in the time of David. After that, there is no mention of them. Most likely these genetic traits did not survive the passing of time.
Those growing this tall today in our modern-day world usually have serious health issues. However, in the days of Moses, the “giants” were warriors and they appeared to be in good health.
“And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight” Num.13:33  .
“(That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims..” (Deu 2:20)
“For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron” (Deu.3:11)

Goliath wasn’t a lonely gene-mistake in his day. His family was close to his size: “then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant. And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam. And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant” (2.Sam.21:18-20).

Pottery found in the city of Gat.

According to the Bible Goliath was from the city of Gath. This city has been located and dug up by archeologists. An amazing discovery followed while going through the city remains. A piece of pottery buried carrying the name, Goliath. If this is the Biblical Goliath remains unknown. However, the Bible does describe the giant as a celebrity and pride of the city and so it’s not surprising if his name was celebrated. And even if it’s not the same Goliath it does still confirm the Bible as historically accurate, giving a name tied to a city and archeology proving Goliath was in face a name used in that city in biblical times.

See us visiting the remains of the Philistine cities of Ashdod, Gat, and Ekron in our video seminar: The Ark in Wars.
The Ark of the Covenant’s visit to the city of Gat was the same time-period when Goliath and his family lived.

Love the history of the Bible. I want to learn more. Not from unbiblical tradition, but rather from the one true source.
I want to understand and get the whole picture right.

    I bless you.
